Washroom Refurbishment, Grimsby Auditorium
We refurbished five washrooms at Grimsby Auditorium, phased around the venue's show programme so facilities stayed open throughout.
Sector: Local Authority – Public Buildings
Location: Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire
Client Brief: Fully refurbish the male, female, accessible and staff washrooms at a busy live entertainment venue, to a high standard and within a tight four-week programme. The building needed to stay open to staff and audiences throughout.
Our Role: Principal contractor under CDM 2015, responsible for planning, phasing and delivering all works, including managing specialist electrical sub-contractors.
Scope of Works:
Strip-out of five existing washrooms
Installation of Bushboard washroom panels, cubicles and vanity units
New Polysafe safety flooring throughout
Plumbing, electrical and heating works, including new low surface temperature radiators
Baby change facilities in both accessible WCs
Relocated hand dryers, new signage and boxing-in of pipework
Making good and redecoration
Key Challenges & Solutions: The Auditorium kept running shows throughout the works, so facilities had to stay available at all times. We split the works into two phases. The male, female and first floor accessible WCs were completed in the first three weeks, while the staff WC and ground floor accessible WC stayed in use. Those two rooms followed in week four. Work was planned around the show timetable, and snagging was done as each room progressed rather than left until the end.
Outcome: All five washrooms were completed on programme in August 2026 and signed off by the council. The venue never lost facilities during the works. The project has since led to further work with North East Lincolnshire Council.
